THAT IMO MAY NOT DRIFT AWAY AGAIN - By: Prince Eze Ugochukwu

“A vision without a strategy remains an illusion.” Lee Bolman

In the begining, the Imo State vision was absolutely clear under late Governor Sam Mbakwe. There was a clear vision and a strategy of development which the eyes could see in virtually all indices of development. The vision was there and the implementation strategy was obvious and noticeable.

In governance, vision is vital for success. When along the line Imo drifted towards the wrong direction, it was glaring that poor leadership was to blame. Essential infrastructures decayed in many fold and Imo lost its original purpose and progression.

What you stand for as a leader is very crucial. Even the direction in which a leader plans to move must be seen by all.

Take the case of Governor Hope Uzodimma. When he came into office in 2020, the vision and strategies were all clear. His vision was an Imo of shared prosperity and his strategy was to reconstruct, rehabilitate and recover all Imo assets especially the decayed infrastructural assets as a catalyst to development. And he went about pursuing those 3R pillars of development.

Lee Bolman, author of "Visioneering," defines Visioneering as developing a compelling and inspiring vision based on careful analysis and consideration of  current and future needs, and mobilizing resources to make the vision a reality.

For Governor Hope Uzodimma, he was able to mobilize to a great extent the necessary resources to make his vision a reality. We can now see new highways in Imo State.

Without clear and measurable action plans, then we are dealing with illusions. That is why it is necessary to dictate early enough those presumptive leaders who may lead a people to ruins emanating from lack of clear vision, strategy and action plan.

But how can we dictate early enough and stop in their tracks; these type of poor leaders? What are the yardsticks, the barometer to use to gauge good leaders? We cannot continue to cry and remain helpless while a whole generation gradually fades away.

Here in Imo State, it is election season once again and we are seeing a multitude of candidates mouthing different promises and throwing same on our faces daily.

Some have told us how they will build skyscrapers to heaven. One even swore to vanquish insecurity and make Imo safe in a twinkle of an eye just like that. In all these, we have not seen well-thought-out, detailed strategies. Nothing is well-tailored to create confidence. There are no implementation plans, and thoroughness is nowhere to be found. That is how we can dictate early enough and stop in their tracks; these type of poor leaders.

Society has been arrested by men without souls. By insatiable monsters who feast on the commonwealth of the people for themselves and their families. They hide under different disguises .They look clean outside, while they are very rotten inside.
