Over the years, women have been rewriting narratives across the world: setting new normals and forging new trails in governance. There are evidence to suggest that women are playing prominent roles in shaping the future of political governance.
A successful leader inspires, motivates, mentors and directs others toward a higher goal, and if we understood leadership as the sum of skills and abilities that characterize and determine a potential good leader, then Mrs Chinyere Ekomaru brings into the arena all the requisite skills, abilities and characteristics to make a successful Deputy Governor.
Many people are unfamiliar with the fact that the biography of Mrs Chinyere Ekomaru is very loaded; what !! with the Nigerian Certificate of Education(NCE - 1989), Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics, (1994), Masters degree in Education(2015), M.Tech in Home Economics and Hospitality Management, and a Ph.D, Home Economics Education(In progress).
Successful women leaders possess common traits found in all good leaders — assertiveness, action-mindedness, risk-taking and problem-solving abilities and Mrs Ekomaru has these in abundance yet respectful, humble and caring.
Mrs Ekomaru is a woman who over the years have progressed through the ranks of her professional calling to share leadership positions in varied sectors notably as the Deputy Director, Directorate of Academic Collaboration and Linkages(DACOL) of the Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, and the Director of Centre for Women and Gender Studies of the same institution. She could not have managed these positions without the ability to communicate and negotiate, nor without having effective communication skills needed to build good working relationships.
Mrs Ekomaru is worthy of celebrating. She is a successful woman who knows her worth and is not afraid to prove it. She has invested enormously in herself, and has not accepted less than the best in any aspect of her life- including in the workplace.
She is inspiring and have set records in nearly every area of life, and this can be glimpsed from her numerous books and publications which includes:- : "Infant feeding practice of nursing mothers. (2021) : "Free radicals, antioxidant and oxidative stress: Impact on human health,(2021) : "Repositioning and revitalizing Home Economics Education in Lagos State(2021) : "Nutrition and brain development in early life of children(2020) : "Family planning practice on young couples: "Mainstream ing women farmers in climate change mitigation and adaptation in Nigeria(2019), : "Advocating inclusion in early childhood education in Imo State(2018) : "Awareness of health implications of domestic violence against women in a municipality of Imo State(2018) : "Stress and it's management among career women in Imo State(2017) : "Psycho- Physiological problems among dual career women - A cause of stress(2016) : "Factors affecting quality teacher education in Nigeria(2016) : "Gas flaring economic expediency at the expense of human health conditions in Niger Delta. Governor Uzodimma was right when he said, " I have picked a female deputy governorship candidate in the person of Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru. I believe she will add value to this ticket. I expect Imo women to appreciate this gesture as my genuine appreciation of their innate strength and capacity to make contribution to the growth of our state"
The Imo State Governor has not discriminated against women in the three and half years of his administration. In fact, Governor Uzodimma has discovered highly skilled and performing women to help move Imo State forward.
In March 2020, Governor Hope Uzodinma swore in Justice Ijeoma Agugua, as the first female Chief Judge in the state. In October 2021, he swore in a new Acting Chief Judge of the state, Justice Mrs.Theresa Chikeka. Over six women are commissioners in Imo State occupying prime positions like the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, (Mrs Ruby Emele); Housing(Lady Love Ineh), Water Resources(Mrs Ann Dozie), Women Affairs(Mrs Nkechi Ugwu),
Humanitarian Affairs(Hajia Rabbi Ibrahim) and Finance(Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite) who is now a Minister designate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The large number of women participating in governance in Imo State is a commendable illustration of the Governor's disposition towards the womenfolk.
Talent is critical to staying competitive, and the growing number of qualified women in the Imo State government is quite phenomenal and unprecedented, thanks to Governor Hope Uzodimma.
