The Imo Ship Is Sailing, And Some People Want To Sink It Again

THE ANALOGY:  By: Prince Eze Ugochukwu

The Imo ship is sailing comfortably. The systems are top notch and communications are up and running. The captain of the ship is a very experienced sailor and navigator. But some people want to sink the ship again.

We are in the midst of an election season, and the election in November will signal whether Imo State is still serious about development or not.

Some candidates are actively attacking our developmental strides, while intentionally stoking insecurity and endangering the State more and more. There is an active campaign to sow chaos and impact our peace. Darkness beckons if we allow them near the ship let alone gain a foothold inside the wheelhouse or the bridge

And on top of all that, these candidates continue to use the media to spin lies and paint alternative realities, facilitating doubt and muddying facts. In other words, our Imo State is in peril. Our ship will sink if we allow them to smell power.

The Imo Ship of State is cruising
majestically after being moored in the doldrums for a decade. The Imo Ship of State is no longer worn-out; it is seaworthy. We (the passengers) ; the co-owners of the vessel will hire the crew. For the most part, we have agreed on certain things: that our people should have a right to live peacefully; we should come together in times of distress and that when our values are threatened; we should treat each other fairly and aspire to provide everyone with access to essential resources needed to exist free of suffering.

Already, the captain of the ship has made sure that essential and scarce resources are properly and equitably distributed.

There are many destinations to sail toward but we have commonly decided between a few options. Yes, we disagree ― often passionately ― about which island to head for. But at the moment, we have all agreed to head yet again towards the same destination than arguing over where to steer. The crew, led by a predictable and knowledgeable captain, has already mended, restored and repaired the Imo Ship of State: strengthening and fortifying the communication systems, closing and patching up the holes in the hull, and distributing rations.

But they’ve started false rumours to pit groups of passengers against each other. To confuse the people. They claim they will make the ship safe again when the ship is already repaired and restored and sailing comfortably. Their intent mostly is to sabotage the sweet sail.

But, we are left with a choice. Do we; the passengers and owners of the vessel, band together to save the ship? or do we keep arguing about which island to steer toward? Hopefully, the answer is obvious. The answer lies with the HOPE "island". That's where to steer the ship towards.

We, the rational passengers, must see past their misinformation and band together to see that our ship gets to the rightful destination - The island of HOPE. This will require abandoning all of the would-be captains with no navigational licence who have neither compass nor a map. We will not give them a chance to wrestle control of the ship’s systems from the principled captain.

First, we need to ask those who want to captain the ship to show us their navigational plan; their policies and principles; their action plans to ensure our vessel remains seaworthy. Where will they take us to? They must tell us. Already the ship is safe, nobody can make it safe again. The engineer we hired, is experienced.

Second, we need to educate those who are aiding and abetting the sabotaging of our development and security that we are watchful and ready to defend the vessel. They simply cannot be trusted with executive control. They must be defeated with massive numbers.

As we vet candidates during this campaign season, we should ensure that they are ready to engage in the hard work ahead keeping in mind that the next Governor will have the unique historical role of shepherding our development to higher pinnacles.

In Hope Uzodimma, we have uncovered a good sailor who is calm, experienced, dependable, and
responsible.
