√: Alaba Market Demolitions And Matters Arising.

Peacemakers in the Bible would step between two warring parties. The peacemaker initiates reconciliation. They serve as mediators for people engaged in conflicts.

For you to be a peacemaker,  peace must rule in your own heart, you must be active, not passive, you must be gentle and resolute in the truth and you must be patient.

"There is a need to reset the current relationship between Ndi Igbo and the State government. And there is a need to douse the prevailing tension by the suspension of further demolition of buildings at Alaba International Market. It will be a good idea if a review committee is inaugurated to ensure that buildings which are not in contravention of planning regulations are not demolished"

That was Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State speaking as a peacemaker when he led a delegation of Igbo businessmen and traders to meet the Lagos State Governor over the issues that arose from buildings demolished at the Alaba International market in Lagos.

And following the peace parley,  Governor Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State released a statement saying, "A joint working committee has been set up to resolve issues surrounding the recent demolition of properties in some markets in the state, especially the Alaba International Market"

Peacemaking, as such, requires taking the initiative to build bridges between the parties at odds through reconciliation. Those who assist in such efforts find joy in the experience of seeing people reconciled to one another.

Peacemaking generally includes measures to address conflicts in progress and usually involves diplomatic action to bring hostile parties to a negotiated agreement. This is exactly what Governor Hope Uzodimma has achieved with his diplomatic shuttle to Lagos which has now resulted in the setting up of a Joint Committee to bring together both the Lagos State government and representatives of Igbo's living and doing business in Lagos.

The vine always bears good fruit. Governor Uzodimma is that vine. His good fruit has doused the tension in Lagos. He knows what his people are going through, and he gives them the same empathy and compassion that God extended to him.

The doctrine of reconciliation entails, the search for peace with all people. Furthermore, the doctrine summons us to promote peace with all, to love the enemy, to forgive and to do good to all people.
