THE SINISTER CAMPAIGN SLOGANS - A Red Flag. By. Prince Eze Ugochukwu

IMO STATE PUBLIC ENLIGHTENMENT

THE SINISTER CAMPAIGN SLOGANS - A Red Flag.

Prince Eze Ugochukwu

As unbelievable as it may sound, the opposition has escalated its fight against the efforts of the Imo State Government to combat insecurity in the state.

Their thoughtlessness is very harmful, and we must as early as possible sound a note of warning, and scrutinize their very threatening, alarming, and menacing, campaign sloganeering.

Is it not puzzling that the rallying cry of the opposition in the run-up to the 2023 Imo governorship election is solely centred on insecurity? They want to bury the fact that the government has virtually degraded the potency of attacks by gunmen. This is the more reason to beam a searchlight on their sloganeering to unravel their sinister motives and nip any planned resurgence or renewal of violence in the bud.

It is not in doubt that the opposition has a history of alliance with fifth-columnists. Their history of liaison and romance with those impeding smooth governance in the state is not hidden. From their speeches, media engagements, newspaper articles and their campaign literature, you can discern a pattern of instigatory cooperation leading invariably to violence.

The Imo public must be alerted about the opposition strategy to upscale the insecurity in the state to harness some anticipated backlash against the government.

It is untrue and unjust to blame the Governor and the  Government for the insecurity in the state. The insecurity engulfed the entire South East and was not limited to Imo State. So why is the opposition domesticating the issue as an Imo-only occurrence? This is very sinister. The Governor has done his job of combating insecurity very well. The truth is that the sterling performance of Governor Hope Uzodimma has shocked his opponents and left them in a cloud of uncertainty about what tactics to apply to fight him in the election. Their resort to heightening the insecurity in the state is merely a blame game to instil fear and curry favour from the public.

On several occasions, these same opponents of the Governor made it abundantly clear that they will make Imo State ungovernable. As part of a collaborative endeavour, these same people traversed all television and radio stations in Nigeria to condemn the fight against those killing, maiming and kidnapping innocent citizens. They were ambassadors representing bandits and speaking for them. It is a well known investigative principle that where a culprit has a history of behaving in a certain manner, chances are he will behave in same way again. We know their history, including their preferred tactics in battling the positive feats of the government. Violence is their companion and soulmate.

The opposition is trying to shift the focus of the campaign from the real issues of good governance and service delivery to the people. They now try to pass the buck using insecurity which they contrived and instigated in the first place.

The reality is that they have zero to offer the public other than their plan to intentionally mislead and confuse Imo people.

Unfortunately for them, the government is thoroughly, and comprehensively prepared for any attempt to jeopardize peace, and there will be no hiding place for culprits this time around.
