UPDATE ON DREDGING OF URASHI RIVER, IMO STATE

As part of State Government intention towards the realization of the dredging of Urashi river and its subsequent approval by the Federal Government, today, the  Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barr. Nnadim Anyaehie, Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu, Commissioner for Niger Delta Affairs, Dr. Henry Okafor were led by the ongoing Commandant of Oguta Naval Base, Naval Captain A.N Umaru and the incoming Commandant,Commodore S. Abrahim for on the spot assessment of the flag-off venue of  pre-dredging hydrographic survey of  the proposed sea access route from Oguta Lake - Orashi River - Degema - Atlantic Ocean.
The project which aims to make the proposed route an all year round navigable channel will give the Navy access to confront and stop crude oil theft within the locality.

This project will be no small effort towards plugging the revenue leak from oil theft and
spin of economic and social benefits to the people.

It is also expected that with the planned installation of jetties at critical points of the route, trade and social interaction will be rekindled at a greater pace and level most especially will introduce re -opening of the pre- colonial/colonial palm oil trade route of the Royal Niger Company and its successor entities. Indeed, there is a Kalahari Beach on one side of the Oguta Lake, a reference to centuries of trade between the Kalabaris of the lower Niger Delta and the hinterland Igbos of Oguta and beyond.
The developmental trajectory of Governor Hope Uzodimma's shared prosperity administration in Imo State has indeed showcased his avowed commitment in uplifting and redefining governance through improved infrastructural drive in the state.

His Excellency, Professor Yemi Osibanjo will in the coming days perform the flagging-off ceremony of the pre-dredging hydrographic survey of  the proposed sea access route from Oguta Lake - Orashi River - Degema - Atlantic Ocean, in Oguta local govemment area.
