By: Prince Eze Ugochukwu
The Imo State Governor, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma will today take another bold step towards addressing pressing challenges of vulnerable citizens in Imo State in order to achieve his Shared Prosperity Agenda.
Today's scheduled empowerment of 25,000 Imolites under the IMO CARES PROGRAM is a follow up to numerous other empowerment programs implemented by Governor Hope Uzodimma including the massive financial windfall previously invested on 15,000 Imo youths.
Leading up to today's event; It will be recalled that on the 15th of June 2021, Governor Hope Uzodimma inaugurated the "Imo Cares State Steering Committee".
The IMO CARES Empowerment Program is an offshoot of the Federal Government NG-CARES program which is a Covid 19 Action and Economic Recovery Program aimed at restoring the livelihoods of Poor and Vulnerable Households (PVHH), maintaining food security, and facilitating the recovery of medium and small enterprises ( MSE's).
On that occasion in 2021, His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma described the stimulus
program as a "historic milestone in the efforts of the World community, the Federal Government and the State Government, to holistically address the devastating socio-economic effects of COVID 19, which has created a colony of a new poor in our country and indeed the world. This is a salutary programme that will sooner than later erase the devastation on the economy of the poor and vulnerable, occasioned by COVID 19.
Governor Uzodimma hailed the program as "another manifestation of the government's genuine concern for the less privileged..."It is self-evident that the devastating effect of COVID-19 pandemic on the world's economy has forced many countries to restrategise on how best to save their populace from hunger and disease which are the direct consequences of the pandemic. Imo State being part of the global community is not immune from those challenges".
Continuing the Governor said, "This programme as we all know was fashioned to mitigate the local effects of COVID-19 pandemic on existing and newly poor and vulnerable households in our state. It is envisaged that within the next 18 to 24 months, the objectives of the programme would have been realized".
And today, the promises previously offered by Governor Uzodimma will be fulfilled at the Late Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Heroes Square. Owerri.
