Governor Hope Uzodimma Scores Another First

Imo State Specialist Hospital, Umuguma, has joined the league of Spine Centres where complex spine surgeries can be performed safely
Yesterday, 12th August, 2021, The Imo State Specialist Hospital, Umuguma performed her first complex spine surgery on a 36 year old accident victim who came to the hospital paralysed. And to give him a chance of recovery, he underwent *Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion* during which a complete C6/C7 dislocation *(red arrows)* {whereby C7 cervical vertebra completely dislocated from C6 cervical vertebra, with C7 lying behind C6 and compressing his spinal cord}, was reduced, spinal alignment restored and the spinal cord compression relieved.

The Management of the Imo State Specialist Hospital thanked His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodimma for providing them with the enabling environment to achieve this breakthrough.
