UZODIMMA SET TO ESTABLISH A DEBT MANAGEMENT OFFICE, AS TWO NEW EXECUTIVE BILLS SCALES THROUGH
Two Executive Bills from the Imo State Government has been passed into law by the Imo State House of Assembly.
They are:-
▪ The House of Assembly Bill ( HAB)90 - A Bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the *Imo Debt Management Office* and for other related matters.
▪ The House of Assembly Bill ( HAB) 91 - A Bill for a law to repeal the Imo State Audit Law No: 17 of 2016, and to enact a law to provide for *AUDIT SERVICE BOARD* in the offices of the State Auditor General, and Auditor General for Local Government and other related matters.
The Bill for the establishment of the Debt Management Office seeks to provide a data base to regulate Government's borrowing, and ensure proper management and administration of the State Government debt loan and related facilities by the Government.
Speaking on the Bill, the Deputy Speaker Rt Hon Amara Iwuanyanwu emphasized on the need to protect the resources of the State.
He said, " Even till this moment, we cannot say how much loan has been taken by the past governments. We cannot account for facilities taken by past administrations talk more of where they had been applied....The establishment of the Debt Management Office would help curb the unnecessary application for loans and misapplication of the funds when released".
On the other hand, the Bill to enact Audit Service Boards, is for the purpose of guaranteeing accountability and transparency in the use of public funds. The Bill also captured the autonomy, independence and neutrality in the conduct of audit in Imo State.
The Bills has been assented to by the Governor.
In another development, The Imo State Chapter of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria ( PASAN ) under the leadership of Comr. Victor Nnadi and Chukwuma Anya as Secretary has joined the State Legislature in applauding the State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma and other principal officers of the House of Assembly for causing into effect the full implementation of Financial Autonomy for the State Legislature.
The commendation from PASAN came on the heels of the recent motion by Rt Hon Amara Iwuanyanwu adopted by the House where the lawmakers had appreciated Governor Hope Uzodimma for the full implementation of Financial Autonomy of the Legislature.
The leadership of PASAN expressed delight that Governor Uzodimma did not waste time to join his Plateau State counterpart to honour the agreement that led to the suspension of the barely three - month old strike action that literally paralysed the activities of the state legislatures across the country.
