WHAT GOVERNOR UZODIMMA TOLD HIS KINSMEN OF ORU EAST
ON THEIR COURTESY VISIT TO GOVERNMENT HOUSE OWERRI
EXTRACTS:
"My initial plan was not to spend too much time with my own people because as you know we are one and the government is your own and charity they say begins at home.
It is important for all of us to know that those who don't remember their history always have problems managing current issues. You have come to your house, you are not a visitor.
We who are from Oru East came from different professionals and careers - we must do our best to know that we are continuing from where our father's and forefathers stopped. We must do our best not to repeat the mistakes of the past.
Oru East is a local government that is very dear to me. If tomorrow after I have left here as the governor and back to Oru East - If those visiting me and those visiting our brothers and sisters cannot point at any sign to show that a governor once came from this place, then it means that we have failed.
I am happy that among the achievements we recorded is that our brothers and sisters have come together to work as a team.
I am also happy and appreciative of the fact that almighty God brought this opportunity to our home, to produce a governor. A governor that will not serve only Oru East but will serve the entire Imo State.
So even though Oru East lays claim to the position of governor, we should not forget that the position belongs to the entire people of Imo State.
I don't want to remember the ugly stories of the past. I want to give opportunities to everybody to come with me let us serve Imo people.
If we agree that power belongs to God, and he chooses to give to whom he want at any time, then that is what will guide us and we will do the right things.
Governors have come and gone and some of you worked with many of them. I want to ask how many of them brought the dividends of democracy to Oru East? So its unrealistic that in one year of my being a governor - that I should transform the whole of Oru East at once. So everyone should be able to count their teeth with their tongue.
I am the governor, even though I am very humble, I understand the powers of a governor. When a dog is playing with its owner, it will appear as if the dog is toothless.
What we are talking is how to develop Imo State so that some of our youths will stop misbehaving - so that our communities will be peaceful - so that our people can put food on the table and sleep with their two eyes closed - that is what we are talking about.
Our Traditional Rulers should endeavour to make their communities peaceful. You are a traditional ruler because you have knowledge of your community. The bad elements in your communities must be known by you.
Government will build police stations, courts and local governments and some youths will go out to burn them down for the sake of trying to discredit Hope Uzodimma. One of the speakers Hon Gozie Nwaneri has said it all. The truth we need to know is that God cannot give challenges to a child without giving him the strength to overcome those challenges.
Some people want us to make mistakes in order to make political gains. I don't want to leave here as a governor who took properties of Imo people.
I have a friend who bears the name ilomuanya, which means that the enemies are wide awake. I am the governor of a state where the enemies are wide awake. So I don't want to make any mistakes. So you will help me as my kinsmen.
The whole of Imo state is waiting to hear what the people of Oru East will say today. They have listened to you and you have spoken well. Let bygone be bygone - going forward let there be peace.
We most not be complainants all the time - we must initiate things and when you initiate, I will partner with you and we will solve all the problems.
I assure you that I will not disappoint you.
