Imo State Government To Collaborate With FRSC On Public Safety.
In continuation of his visits to security agencies in Imo State, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Safety, Hon. Prince Ugochukwu Nzekwe has paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Road Safety Commission
( FRSC) Imo State Sector Command.
Hon. Nzekwe who was received by the Sector Commander, Roland Onamusi disclosed that the purpose of the visit is to build synergy and partnership between the government of Imo State and the FRSC in the area of public safety.
The Special Adviser on Public Safety stated that the Governor, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma places considerable emphasis on public safety, in the fight against illicit and prohibited drugs, and abuse of alcohol consumption which poses serious threat to road safety.
Hon. Nzekwe informed the FRSC that the use of forged vehicle documents, lack of adequate database, and fake vehicle number plates are all factors inhibiting public safety as armed robbers resort to such abuses to perpetrate crimes against members of the public.
As part of the highlights of the visit, and in the effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic the state government initiated a review of safety measures for drivers, passengers and commuters, in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Commission.
The meeting highlighted the need for drivers and passengers and other road users to observe laid down rules on social distancing, the use of sanitizers and other preventive measures.
While addressing men and women of the Command, Hon. Prince Nzekwe appealed to the Federal Road Safety Commission to quickly liaise with various transport unions in the state to sensitize their drivers to ensure absolute compliance with the preventive measures put in place to curb the covid19 virus.
Hon. Nzekwe appealed to the Sector Commander to educate his men and instil discipline on erring members so as not to aide and abet any breach of public safety protocols in Imo State.
